Proclaim ’15 was a national initiative of the Bishops of England and Wales launched in 2015 to support Parish Evangelisation, building missionary parishes.

It was inspired by Pope Francis’ writings, especially The Joy of the Gospel, and has five parts, which include providing free parish small- group materials, and organising the first ever National Catholic Evangelisation Conference which took place in Birmingham on 11 July 2015, for 800 evangelisation representatives from across England and Wales.

Teresa Brown reports:

Auditorium from stage left at Proclaim 15"35 delegates from Northampton diocese, including the Diocesan Evangelisation Team, joined over 800 delegates from across the dioceses of England and Wales for Proclaim ‘15, a historic conference on evangelisation which took place in Birmingham Repertory Theatre on 11th July 2015.

It was an inspiring and well organised day, with an impressive line-up of speakers including Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop Bernard Longley, Mrs Michelle Moran and Rev Nicky Gumbel.

Greetings from the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby were read out, and Nicky Gumbel’s repeated praise for Pope Francis’ Evangelii Gaudium gave the impression that Catholics were now leaders in the field of Evangelisation!

Each delegate attended three workshops, one of which had to be “How to make prayer the foundation of your missionary parish”. This was led by the Bishop of Brentwood, Alan Williams, with the help of Kate Wilson from St Thomas More parish in Towcester, who shared her testimony of how the parish had developed, following the years of faithful and persistent prayers by a very small group of people.

All the workshops were given by experts whose practical knowledge and wisdom presented a range of ways that a parish can begin to become more missionary. They also equipped us to respond individually to those whom Cardinal Vincent asked us to look out for –– our colleagues, the curious and those who cry for help. (Another version of the three “C”s!)

Our own Bishop Peter Doyle was among the bishops and priests concelebrating the Eucharist at the end of the day, by which time there was a great sense of belonging to a Church that was vibrant and ready for action.

Proclaim 15 has helped to equip, motivate and activate local parishes in every diocese, to become the missionary disciples that Pope Francis has called us to be. The materials from this day will be freely available online, by Home Mission Sunday.  The church in this country will not be the same from now on, and once we accept the challenge to build missionary parishes, we should expect to see the transformation of society in every village, town and city. What a day! "

Proclaim '15 is for everyone, we are all invited to get involved in what is a significant new step in service of the proclamation of the Gospel in our own areas. Start now, with this Proclaim 15 Prayer:

Proclaim ’15: Prayer For Individuals And Parishes

Loving Father,

You so loved the world that you sent us your only Son,

that we might believe in him and have eternal life.

May we encounter Jesus Christ anew this day

and live the Good News with joy.

Through the power of your Holy Spirit,

help us to “go out to the whole world and proclaim”

our faith with confidence.

Give us the courage to witness to the Joy of the Gospel

by our words and actions.

Help our parish to become more welcoming and missionary,

so that you may be known and loved by all people.

We make this prayer through Our Lord Jesus Christ Your Son,

who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever,
