There are many prayer groups in the Diocese, where people meet to pray in a context other than the Holy Mass. Some are led by a priest, deacon or religious sister. Some are entirely lay-led.

As in other sections of this website, for the protection of privacy we are not giving out personal telephone numbers or home addresses unless we are asked to. To make contact with any of these groups, use the Church Finder to get details for the host parish, or its website, and contact the organising person via the parish.

We have adopted the self-categorisation of groups as used in the printed Diocesan Directory. "Charismatic" means that the group meetings may feature spiritual practices characteristic of Catholic Charismatic Renewal, such as praying or singing in tongues, openness to "prophetic words" or other forms of guidance from God, and the laying-on of hands for healing and blessing. Musical worship may be lively and exuberant. "Meditation" groups will be characterised by a quieter, more contemplative approach with periods of silence. "Other prayer groups" may have different styles or "themes", such as a dedication to a particular saint or spirituality. But any individual group may have elements from all three styles.  If in doubt, try them out ! - they will all be very welcoming of new faces.
