21st February - Ordination of Rev. Patrick Hutton to the priesthood, at the Cathedral. Fr Hutton will assist Fr Brennan at SS Philip & James, and Holy Cross, Bedford.

15th February - RIP Fr Raphael O'Connell ODC, former parish priest and Superior at St Josephs, Gerrards Cross. He slipped away after some time in a coma, in a hospice in Oxford. His funeral Mass was at St Josephs on Monday 23rd. May he rest in peace.

10th February - Assisted Dying alert - Two Liberal Democrat MPs have put down amendments to the Coroners and Justice Bill which, if passed, would have the effect of removing the offence of assisting someone to commit suicide. This is the first major bid to change the law on Assisted Dying in Parliament since the Joffe Bill in the House of Lords in 2006, which was happily defeated. This could come before the Commons as part of a "Report Stage" in early March. Please consider writing urgently to your MP on this issue. For further information and suggestions, try here

6th February - RIP Fr John Osborne, ordained 1969, former parish priest at St Bede's, Newport Pagnell, and St Patrick's, Corby, where he had been PP since 1985 until his retirement only a few months ago. Brin writes: "I have the warmest memories of Fr John, who showed great hospitality on my visits to his parish. He had a dry wit, and a great fund of stories from the past of the Diocese. Sadly missed, May he rest in peace."  His funeral Mass was at St Patrick's on Thursday 26th.

2nd February - RIP Fr James McCormick, a retired priest of Westminster Archdiocese who has been serving as Chaplain at Thornton College near Buckingham in our Diocese - it is an independent girls' boarding school run by the Religious of Jesus and Mary. May he rest in peace.

25th January 2009. The Diocesan Evangelisation Team, which has been actively organising events for a few months now, was formally commissioned by the Bishop at a Concert in the Cathedral. Read more about their work and what they can offer here.

22nd January 2009 - RIP Fr Stephen Reith, ordained 1962, parish priest at Bourne End 1975-1983, and Leighton Buzzard 1982-2002, retired since then but often seen helping out as a supply priest. He had kept his cancer very quiet and was calm and good-humoured to the last, passing away in a nursing home in Norfolk. May he rest in peace.  His funeral was at Walsingham on Friday 6th February, but  many people were unable to get there because of the bad weather, and the Bishop is hoping to arrange another Memorial Mass.
