Welcome to Safeguarding Minimize

Bishop Peter smilingSafeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults

“Safeguarding of us all, especially our children and young people, and those who are vulnerable, is a key priority for the Church in the Diocese of Northampton. It is a priority that springs from the very message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ who came to heal wounds and restore right relationships in his love for all people.

Being loved and kept safe go to the very core of the Church’s ministry to children and vulnerable adults.

I am grateful to the Diocesan Safeguarding Office, to the Diocesan Safeguarding Commission and to the Parish Safeguarding Representatives for ensuring that the safeguarding policies and procedures of the Catholic Church in England and Wales are implemented fully.

In response to allegations of abuse we liaise promptly with statutory agencies, strive to support victims appropriately, and hold perpetrators to account. Above all, we seek to create and maintain a safe environment for all

- Bishop Peter Doyle”.

Getting involved Minimize

Would you like to get involved in this valuable ministry? Safeguarding matters, and the Diocese of Northampton would like to increase the number of volunteers involved in key safeguarding roles in the Church, either as Parish Safeguarding Representatives or as Safeguarding Commission members. Please read on to find out what these roles involve.

Parish Safeguarding Representatives

As a nominated Safeguarding Representative, this role entails the promotion of good and safe practices in all activities involving vulnerable people within your parish or congregation, supported by the Church’s national policies and procedures for safeguarding. The role also includes facilitating the safer recruitment of those working with vulnerable people, including the completion of the DBS disclosure process. Furthermore, this person acts as the central point for concerns to be shared and as a link between the Diocese and the parish. If this sounds interesting and something you would like to undertake, please contact your parish priest or Lorraine Elks on 01604 723516 or safeguardingadmin@northamptondiocese.com

Safeguarding Commission Members

If you have current safeguarding knowledge and expertise, then you would be an ideal candidate to join our local Commission. As a Member, your role will include attendance at Commission meetings, which take place four times each year. If you are interested in learning more about becoming a Commission Member, please contact Danielle Dixon on 01604 723514 or 07833 050628 or safeguarding@northamptondiocese.com. For further information, please refer to the Safeguarding Commission page.
